Today I spent the morning and mid afternoon with my niece, Nyah. She is a 14 year old dance sensation. 😊 She has a school competition this evening and asked me to do her makeup and hair. I came by earlier this week and did a trial run. I think she liked it. I hope she liked it. She is an amazing young lady. I recorded our session today, doing the makeup part, for my Facebook business page (here). I asked her if I could tag her in the video (it was a Facebook live video) and she said ok. She was so natural in front of the camera, knowing it was going out live. She had no concerns about looking silly or saying the wrong thing. She was just her natural bubbly self. No worry of judgement, and if anyone judged her, she certainly didn't care about their opinion. She is at the cusp of adulthood. Working her way towards high school and the judgement that comes with it. I pray that she maintains her current attitude of "I don't care what you think". I hope she stays her bubbly, happy self. Some kids come through high school unscathed and happy. Others don't. I wish I could help all the women out there to be as natural and happy and uncaring about judgement as my neice is today. I hope we can all get to the place where we are our old, young, selves. Before we decided we had to care about other peoples opinions about our hair and clothes and makeup and weight and hobbies. Before we decided that other people had the power to change how we feel about ourselves. I hope you all find the pre-teen you...the one who is happy with who you are.
