Trending Tuesdays - Bronzed, Dewy Skin

Welcome to Trending Tuesday!  Today we are going to talk about a 2017 trend that I love!  This look is a bronzed, dewy skin look.  It's super simple to achieve and the products feel light on the skin.  It's fast and easy.

First, prep face with your normal skin care routine - i.e. moisturizer, sunscreen, ROSE WATER (๐Ÿ˜‰).

Next, apply primer, if you have one (if not you can get one here) and concealer.

Apply your foundation or BB Cream.  The goal here is to have a very flat look - you want a clean slate to apply the other products. (I used a BB cream in Cream).

The next step is to apply luminizer to your whole face, focusing high on your cheekbones and your eyelids. (This product will be available tomorrow in kits - I'll post the link at that time)

Add bronzer in place of your blush, careful not to cover the very top of your cheekbone.  Pull the bronzer from the hairline down, as you would your blush.

Apply bronzer to your eyelids, concentrating on the outside corners of your eyes.

Finish by applying bronzer, lightly over your t-zone and your chin - just the areas the sun would normally hit your face.

Add a light lipgloss and an excellent mascara and you have finished the look!

Check out the video below and please comment with questions!

I hope you try it out and love it like I do!  Have a great day! #tinasfearlessfaces

Serenity Sundays

Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

To Prime or Not to Prime?...That is the question.

I'm sure you've heard of makeup primers, eye primers, lip primers, house paint primers, and the like.  They all have a similar purpose, and they are all important.  So what's the big deal?  Simply put, primers create a smooth, even surface on which to add your paint of choice.  Be it Valspar Interior Eggshell, or Younique Liquid Foundation.

Does it really make that big of a difference?  Actually, yes.  primer minimizes your pores and the fine lines, helping your makeup to sit ON the primer, not IN the fine lines.   In addition to those amazing features, primer also helps you makeup to stay on longer and you can use less product to get the same effect.

So, check out the video below for a little show & tell with face primer, and make up your own mind.  This video is pretty lengthy, so let me break down the highlights for you....

Foundation - goes further and goes on smoother with primer

Concealer - about the same with or without primer

Blush - WAY brighter with primer

Eye shadow from palette - Huge difference in color and intensity.  The primer is critical for shadows.

Eye shadow - Splurge Eye Cream - Without the primer, you have to tug and work the shadow around - with the primer, goes on smooth and bright and spreads like a dream.

In all cases, having the primer on makes all makeup go on super smooth.

Free Stuff, What??

In honor of our fun makeup brush tutorial....We're going to give a free makeup brush to anyone who makes a purchase at our shop between now and February 23rd, 2017.  Everybody likes free stuff!

Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes - And why you should care...

Last night, I was doing a super fun inventory and putting things back to order on my dressing table.  I glanced over at my cute little jar (former candle jar) that holds all my brushes, and noticed that they were getting pretty gross.  Before I started selling Younique, I only wore makeup a few times per month.  As a result, I only used to wash my brushes once every few months.  Since I've started selling, I wear makeup pretty much every day.  As a result, my brushes need much more attention than they are used to getting.  Now makeup brushes range in price from very cheap to extremely expensive.  This is definitely one of those cases where the more you spend, the better quality brush you are getting.  In the video below, the red handled brushes are cheap and I've had them about a year.  The purple and orange handled brushes were considerably more expensive and I've had them about 6 months.  It's easy to see the quality difference in person, and the more expensive ones are holding up really well.  Either way, go with what you can afford, and just take really good care of them to get the most life out of them.

Now why does it matter?  There are several reasons.  First, when you allow makeup to build up in the brush, bacteria, dead skin cells, dust and other grossness builds up in it.  Every time you use it, you are smearing all that on your face.  Gross.  If you have issues with acne or sensitive skin, this buildup on your brushes is even harder on your skin, causing acne to spread and increasing sensitivity.

Secondarily, the makeup that is on your brush is old and dried out.  When you add fresh makeup to that, it mixes and causes your application to be rough.  Just like if you added dried paint flecks to your fresh paint, you'll leave scrapes and lines in your paint - same thing with your face.

Lastly, keeping your brushes clean improves the life of the brush.  Dirty bristles wear down faster than clean ones.  You spend your hard earned cash on your brushes, keeping them clean will help them last and last.

So the process of cleaning brushes is super easy.  Use a gentle, unscented (if you can find it) soap or shampoo.  Baby shampoo works well, as does castile soap (this is a pure olive oil soap with no additives).  Both can usually be found in your local supermarket - the castile soap is usually found in the organic food aisle.  There are also plenty of brush cleaning solutions for sale.  The soap is more economical.  Some people like to add a bit of olive oil to their soap when cleaning their brushes to condition them.  I am not a fan - my brushes come clean and are easily shaped, so I don't feel the need to add oil.  As you can see in the video below, my soap contains lavender essential oil, so that helps keep bacteria down and adds a bit of conditioning too.  You decide how you like it.  If you use olive oil, do one part olive oil to two parts soap.

Use very warm water, and holding the brush, bristle side down, wet the brush and let some of the loose makeup rinse out of the brush.  Apply soap either directly to the brush bristles or to your hand or silicone mat.  Using a swirling motion, swish the soap through the brush while rubbing it on your hand.  If using a silicone brush mat (you can get one for about $10 at most beauty supply stores), use a swirling motion to swish the soap through the brush while rubbing it on the mat.  Rinse the dirty soap from your hand / mat, and repeat the process until the soap remains clean after swirling.  Rinse the soap out of the brush, squeeze excess water out,  re-shape the bristles and either lay over the side of the sink or hang to dry. That's it!  For more details, see the video below, or you can follow this link.

My Mascara Nightmare

As many of you know, I'm in love with the 3D Fiber Lash Mascara by Younique.  Now let me tell you why I love it so.

Early last year, I noticed that my mascara was a bit crumbly - meaning that it would flake off onto my cheeks over the course of the day.  Ok, so obviously I need to change mascara.  No problem. I go to my local department store, thinking if I spend more on the mascara, it will be better, right? Quit buying the cheap-o versions at the drug store, spend a bit more, and my lashes will be healthy and awesome.
Let's say i purchased Brand X.  I'm not going to bash any specific brand, but I did spend $27.50 on this high end, "lengthening" mascara.  Good to go, right?  Not so much.
About the forth time I used it, I rubbed my eye, and it flaked off, but not the little bitty flakes, longer flakes.  Ok.  That was weird, but decided to just be careful not to rub my eye.  About 2 weeks into using it, I noticed that my eyelashes seem shorter.  Odd.  The last day I tried it, I had something (I think it was a flake of mascara) fly in my eye.  It burned really bad, so I rubbed my eye, gently, trying to get it out.  Long flakes all over my cheek.  I went to the bathroom and removed all my makeup, desperately trying to get the piece of debris out of my eye.  I'm blinking and my eye is watering and I get all my eye makeup off.  I look down at the pad I used to remove my eye makeup and am startled to see all the black flecks.  Long flecks.  A lot of them.  I finally get the debris out of my eye and I check to see how red my eye is.  Wow. It's really red....hey...Oh MY GOODNESS!  My eyelashes are

almost GONE! Rubbing my eye with that mascara on caused all of the lashes to break off! Just like super brittle, over processed hair. I freaked out. A little. I had these short stubby little eyelashes. I panicked for a short moment before I remembered that they grow back. THEY GROW BACK. Ok. Breathing.

My friend, Rachel, had sold me the 3D Fiber Lash Mascara earlier in the year, but I found it a bit dry, so I had thrown it in a drawer. I went to the website, because I knew that Younique was supposed to produce a more natural product. So what makes it better? The transplanting gel uses polymers known to provide conditioning and moisturizing properties. It contains vitamin B5, E and Chamomilla Flower extract - The gel conditions and moisturizes. And those fibers? They have benefits too, they are formulated with squalane and CoQ10, ingredients known to condition, moisturize, and fortify hair and skin.

So there's a bunch of fancy words and promises, that should make me feel better, but it stills seemed dry. I called Rachel. Turns out the dryness was a known issue, but the company was reformulating it to fix the problem. Rachel asked if I'd be willing to wait for the new formula to come out. I waited. I'm so glad I did. Since I started using the new mascara in January, my lashes are BACK BABY! Longer than they were before, a little bit thicker, and every day as I apply my new mascara, I notice that they look more and more healthy. I have found my miracle mascara. Want some? Click here.

Today I spent the morning and mid afternoon with my niece, Nyah.  She is a 14 year old dance sensation.  ๐Ÿ˜Š  She has a school competition this evening and asked me to do her makeup and hair.  I came by earlier this week and did a trial run.  I think she liked it.   I hope she liked it.  She is an amazing young lady.  I recorded our session today, doing the makeup part, for my Facebook business page (here).  I asked her if I could tag her in the video (it was a Facebook live video) and she said ok.  She was so natural in front of the camera, knowing it was going out live.  She had no concerns about looking silly or saying the wrong thing.  She was just her natural bubbly self.  No worry of judgement, and if anyone judged her, she certainly didn't care about their opinion.  She is at the cusp of adulthood.  Working her way towards high school and the judgement that comes with it.  I pray that she maintains her current attitude of "I don't care what you think".  I hope she stays her bubbly, happy self.  Some kids come through high school unscathed and happy.  Others don't.  I wish I could help all the women out there to be as natural and happy and uncaring about judgement as my neice is today.  I hope we can all get to the place where we are our old, young, selves.  Before we decided we had to care about other peoples opinions about our hair and clothes and makeup and weight and hobbies.  Before we decided that other people had the power to change how we feel about ourselves.  I hope you all find the pre-teen you...the one who is happy with who you are.

Shine Wipes & Detoxifying Mask - Plus ROAR

So I have some great product info for you today!  The Shine Cleansing Cloths and the Detoxifying Mask are both great skin care products that should be part of your beauty regimen.

These bad boys are so generously sized, you could cut them in half to double your usage!

A quick overview of the Royalty Shine Cleansing Cloths - lovingly referred to as Shine Wipes by most Younique Presenters.  So what's the big whoop about these cleansing cloths?  Well, let's talk about the benefits designed to nurture, protect and restore the skin.  Shine Cleansing Cloths are made with various beneficial oils.  Jojoba, sunflower and olive oil are used to help moisturize and soften your skin.  Vitamin E oil is added to help counteract free radical formation on the skin.  Lastly, Rosemary reduces excess shine and helps balance the natural oil levels in the skin.  After you've cleansed your face with the wipe, you can leave the beneficial oils on your skin.  No need to rinse off.

You know that's a gorgeous look!

The detox mask, called the Royalty Detoxifying Mask, has the same goals - to nurture, protect and restore the skin.  How?  This product was created to improve the appearance of the skin.  It absorbs toxins, impurities and harmful substances from the skin, leaving the skin looking radiant. It also helps oxygenate the skin to help improve skin appearance and lastly, the contains a stable derivative of Vitamin A, which helps improve the appearance of skin's texture.  So what does all that mean?  Soft, radiant and smooth skin!

So do you want to see these products in action, and listen to my reasons for picking "Roar" by Katy Perry as my "theme song"?  Check out this video  Let's uplift and empower all women.

If you don't want to watch the video, I'll give you a quick overview - Essentially, I feel that all women should be able to face the world confidently, and without fear - Hence the name Tina's Fearless Faces.  I'll go into more details in later posts, but for tonight, try to embrace your inner tiger and go without fear into tomorrow!

Good Afternoon All!  So lots of exciting things are happening at Younique! They have a ton of sales items / free stuff going on this month, and new products coming out in March.  I will give you more information on the new products later in the month, but for today, I want to talk a bit about the Lip Bonbons and the new technique I tried for hooded eyes.  My eyes are hooded, and getting worse as I age, so I am always on the lookout for new ways to make it less obvious.  I found a few different tutorials, and I am trying to learn these new methods.  The "halo technique" is vastly different depending on who you are watching, so I'm going to try and work with it until it works for me.  You should all do the same!  ๐Ÿ˜ƒ  I did my video this morning, which can be seen here (Video of the day 2/7/17), includes the methods I used and will hopefully give you an idea of where I'm going with this technique.  I will continue to update as I get it perfected.

The lip bonbons are the newest product in my aresenal.  They smell good, go on very smoothly and last pretty well.  They are a lip balm, but they have a light flavoring and coloring.  The names are awesome and I'm very excited to try them all.   Today I went with Cherry Cobbler (red).  Yum.

In other exciting news, several of the collections have had bonus FREE items added to them!  That's right...free stuff!  I can't believe the prices!  I'm a little jealous as I ordered my collections before the free stuff arrived.  LOL.  These items are only while supplies last, so get yours quick!

Superbowl day and Learning about Hooded Eyes

It's Superbowl Day!  Also, for me, it's high carb day, so win/win!  This morning I got up, got ready to go and did a live video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmmuMsMIry0&t=17s )  I like the look I have today, but for those of you who are interested in starting your own Younique business, I can tell you...the hardest part is lighting and having something to say for the time it takes to apply your makeup.  :)  No kidding, I love to talk, and I feel like I run out of things to say during my morning get ready.  I try to have an idea of what I want to say before I start, but I end up rambling.  I don't know if that's a good thing or not.  I'm still new to this business and don't have a ton of followers or anything, so feedback is limited.  I'm going with the theory that if nothing else, my Mom watches.  :)

So the other thought for the day is what am I doing to grow and learn?  I went on Youtube and found some makeup tutorial videos.  They are so helpful.  I am not a makeup person.  I don't know a ton of tricks and tips.  The ones I do know are primarily about skin care because that's what I have always concerned myself with.  Learning these new techniques, that are expressly for my face type, has been enlightening and fun. I'm going to be practicing more today!  Very stoked.  If you are going to dedicate time and energy to being a businesswoman, I believe it's critical that you learn as much as you can about the business so that you can answer questions and help your customers.  If you are doing something you love, it's not work.  That's one of the best parts.

Learning and growing.  Everyday.  Plus, playing with makeup.  Making money.  Loving life.  I hope you join me.  If you're interested, just click Join My Team on the website.

Is a Multi-Level Marketing business the same as a Pyramid Scheme?

So I have started a new adventure and I'm not going to lie, it's been fun, and scary, and frustrating and rewarding...and I've only been doing it a month!

There are some questions I had to ask before I decided to commit, and I'm glad I did.  The company I joined, as a Distributor is Younique, which is a multi level marketing company.  So, for those that don't know what that means, it's basically a company that makes cosmetics and skin care products, they sell them to me then pay me a commission to sell them to others.  That's it.  So what makes it a multi level marketing company?  I have the option to add new distributors to my team.  So, once I make a certain level within the company (Pink - which is the 3rd level), I can make a small commission off of what they make as well.

So what is the difference between that and a pyramid scheme?  They sound the same.  There is a huge difference...

**The Federal trade Commission (FTC) has set guidelines that help consumers discern legitimate plans from illegal ones. The difference between MLM and pyramid schemes under these guidelines are as follows: Sales of actual product or services to consumers, MLM offers products whereas Pyramid schemes do not.**

So, as you can see, MLM's are legitimate ways to earn money. Younique is a MLM that has allowed me to become my own boss. This company allows you to build and work your business in the way you see fit. I'll post more on the business and the company in the next post, but for now, you know the difference.

For more information on Younique, please check out my page at www.tinasfearlessfaces.com or you can look on Facebook at www.facebook.com/tinasfearlessfaces
